Our ten volunteer EMDR therapists had a lot to say about their first “San Diego EMDR Therapists Free "Ample Sample" Day experience . . .
Their motives for participating?
• hoped to gain more information on how to present EMDR to the public
• to get more involved in the EMDR community
• to gain more experience in educating newcomers about both EMDR and a Resource Development experience
What did they find was successful about the Resource Development experience they facilitated with the participants?
• Though my practice was imperfect, the participant was very happy with the result.
• Got to practice a new way to utilize my light bar [a device that guides eye-movements and saves the therapist’s arm from fatigue] that helps me feel more comfortable using this new equipment.
• Participant was going through a lot of PTSD symptoms, but we were still able to do something very useful for her!
• Participant was able to pick a very positive person for her resource.
• Participant was surprised she could gain an unexpected resolution from such a short experience.
*EMDR is a psychotherapy technique accepted by the American Psychology Association, American Psychiatric Association, DOD and VA for the treatment of post-traumatic stress disorder. While the whole EMDR protocol cannot be practiced in a 20 minute “sample,” we can offer you one helpful preparatory step. The benefit? You will gain an effective tool for coping with stress.
