EMDR THERAPIST CATEGORIES
CERTIFIED EMDR THERAPISTS
A therapist who is EMDRIA Certified has:
• been licensed for independent practice
• a minimum 2 years experience in the field
• completed an EMDRIA-approved training program in EMDR
• conducted a minimum of 50 clinical sessions using EMDR
• received 20 hours of consultation by an Approved Consultant
• and continues to complete 12 hours of continuing education in EMDR every 2 years
CERTIFIED IN TRAINING
A therapist who is Certified-in-Training has begun the process of consultation with an Approved Consultant, and fulfilling the other requirements for Certification. This therapist has already completed EMDR training.
APPROVED CONSULTANTS
Meets all above criteria for Certification, plus has:
• 3 years experience in EMDR
• conducted at least 300 sessions in which EMDR was utilized
• 20 additional hours of consultation with an Approved Consultant
CONSULTANT IN TRAINING
A therapist who is a Consultant in Training is a Certified Therapist who has at least 3 years experience, having conducted at least 300 sessions using EMDR. Additionally, this therapist is in process toward completing the 20 additional hours of consultation with an Approved Consultant. The focus of this work is to review the consultation he/she provides to therapists seeking Certification.
